Add and configure an interactive object

Prerequisites : To create or edit a map in Virtual Building you need at least contribution rights on the Sharepoint site where the component is deployed.

Add a new item

First you need to go on edit mode by clicking on the wheel button on the bottom right corner of the map.

Then, from an area you can create a new item that will be linked to the area.

By clicking on this option, the object catalog is displayed.

Objects are categorized, and you can navigate through all the categories by opening the drop-down list.

Once you make your choice, you can click on the "Save" button and the object will be added on the area

From there you can change its size and position, then click on the Tape button to validate your choice.

Once validated, you can access to many options to manage your new item. These options are describe in the next chapter.

Manage an item

When you are in edit mode and click on an object, many options appear on the bottom to let you manage it.

Manage the settings

By clicking on "Settings" a panel is opened on the right to let you define all the information relative to the object.

Options Description

Default object name, if no translation is found, this is the one that will be displayed by default.

But, you can add translations that will be displayed depending on the user-preferred language

When one or many translations have been set a number is displayed on the button

This name is displayed :

  • in a popin when the area is closed when the user hovering the object

Default area descripton, if no translation is found, this is the one that will be displayed by default

But, you can add translations that will be displayed depending on the user-preferred language

When one or many translations have been set, a number is displayed on the button

This description is displayed :

  • in a pop in when the area is closed when the user hovers over the object

When you start typing in the box, a list of Office 365 groups is displayed

If a user is not in the selected group, the interactive object becomes unclickable. A sign is displayed to show him that he doesn't have access.

With the Component option, you have access to the entire Powell webpart catalog.

That means you can display whatever you want with the displays offered by Powell.

You can choose how the content will be displayed (layout)

    • On a left panel
    • On a right panel
    • On a full panel

To display an existing URL (for example a content page, a document, ...) you need to specify :

  • How the content will be displayed (layout)
    • On a left/right/Full panel
    • On a new tab
  • The URL of the content

Note that if you want to display a URL outside the Virtual Building domain you have to choose the "New tab" feature. Else the content won't be correctly displayed due to cross-domain restriction.

To define a Team Meeting interaction, you need to specify the URL of the meeting.

When the user clicks on the object, the meeting will be opened in Teams on another tab.

The decoration type is only to make the map pretty.

When an object is defined as decoration, it's not clickable, and no interaction can be defined on it.

This option can be set for only one object.

The object defined as home will be always displayed at first when the user connect to the Virtual Building.

The interaction defined is displayed in a central popin like below.

On the left part are displayed :

  • Hello {current user's display name}
  • The description of the object

On the right part :

  • The defined content in the object settings

Change the image

If you are not happy with the image of the object, you can change it by clicking on the "image" button.

By doing this, you will open again the object catalog described in the first chapter in this documentation.

Change the orientation

For some objects, different orientations are proposed. With the option "change orientation" you can test and select the prefered displayed of the object.

Face Right Back Left

Resize and move

If you want to change the size of the object or its position on the map, you can use the option "Resize and move".

When you click on this option, a resize box is displayed around the object, and by using the corners, you can change its size.

If you stay inside the resize box, you can move the area.

Once you are happy with your change, you need to click on the Tape button to save the new size and position.

Delete the item

If the object doesn't fit your needs, you can delete it from the map.

To do so, you need to click on the trash button and click on confirm on the confirmation box.

If clicking on the trash button was a mistake, you can choose in the confirmation box to cancel the action. The area won't be deleted.

Set to the first plan

When you add an item, its position is under all other existing objects. So in some case you need to set the object in the first plan to correctly see it.
