Understanding the Traffic Tab

The Traffic tab is the starting point of your Advanced Analytics journey. It provides a macro-level overview of your intranet's health, adoption, and overall usage trends.

This tab is particularly useful for Intranet Managers and IT Administrators who need to report on the global platform ROI and monitor access patterns.

📈 Sessions

  • Total sessions and total users: This is your primary adoption metric. It compares the absolute number of visits (sessions) against the number of unique individuals (users) who initiated them.

  • Average session duration: Measures how long a typical visit lasts. A higher duration generally indicates that users are actively reading content or utilizing intranet tools rather than just passing through.

  • Bounce rate: The percentage of sessions that end after a single interaction (meaning the user viewed only one page and left). Note: In an intranet context, a high bounce rate isn't always negative; it may simply mean the user quickly found the exact policy or link they were looking for on the homepage.

  • Average number of sessions by hour of day: A heatmap visualization showing peak connection times. This is incredibly valuable for Internal Comms to determine the best time to publish critical corporate news (e.g., publishing right before the 9:00 AM peak).

  • Device type breakdown (Sessions by OS): A chart detailing whether your employees are browsing via Desktop (Windows/macOS) or Mobile (iOS/Android). This helps you optimize your content layout for the most popular devices.

📊 Pages

  • Total page views: The absolute total number of times any page was loaded across the intranet.

  • Unique page views: This metric counts a page only once per session, even if the user refreshes it or navigates back to it multiple times. It provides a more accurate representation of human engagement by filtering out repetitive reloads.

  • Average page views per session: Indicates the depth of navigation. A higher number means employees are exploring multiple pages and discovering new content once they log in, rather than just checking the homepage.

  • All page views vs. unique pages viewed: A trend chart over time allowing you to compare the total volume of traffic against the actual variety of content being consumed.

  • Top 5 most viewed pages: A quick leaderboard of the most popular content on your portal during the selected timeframe.

  • Average page views by hour of day: Similar to the sessions heatmap, this shows when reading activity is at its highest, helping you understand daily content consumption habits.
