While the other tabs in the Advanced Analytics dashboard focus on the content you have already published, the Search & navigation tab reveals what your employees are actually looking for—and whether or not they can easily find it.
This tab is an essential diagnostic tool for Intranet Managers and Site Owners. It helps you identify content gaps, understand employee vocabulary, and continuously optimize your portal's global menu.
🔍 Metrics Tracked: Search Behavior
The search bar is often the most used feature on any intranet. This section breaks down how your employees are using it:
Top Search Queries: A list of the most frequently searched keywords across your portal. This tells you exactly what topics are currently top-of-mind for your workforce (e.g., "holidays", "IT support", "benefits").
Searches with No Results (Abandoned Searches): This is arguably the most critical metric in this tab. It highlights the exact terms employees are typing that yield zero results, meaning they leave frustrated.
Search Volume Over Time: Shows the frequency of search usage. A sudden spike might indicate that a recent navigation change confused users, forcing them to rely on the search bar to find what they need.
🧭 Metrics Tracked: Navigation Paths & Search Success
This bottom section focuses on the actual journeys your users take and the effectiveness of your search engine.
Navigation path: Instead of just tracking static clicks, this table maps the actual flow of your users. It shows the Origin page, the Destination page, the average time spent on that path, and how many times that specific sequence was taken. This allows you to see how employees naturally hop from one topic to another.
Search result click rate: A powerful donut chart that divides your total searches into two categories:
Searches with clicks: The user searched for a term, saw the results, and clicked on one. The search was successful.
Searches with no clicks: The user searched, but abandoned the page without clicking anything. If this blue portion is too large, it means your search results are not relevant to what employees are actually typing.
🚀 The Strategic Purpose of this Tab
The true value of the Search & Navigation tab lies in how you use the data to improve the digital workplace experience. Here is how you can take action:
Identify and Fill Content Gaps: If you notice a high volume of "No results queries" for a specific topic, it is a clear, data-driven signal that your Internal Comms or HR team needs to create a new page to answer that unfulfilled need.
Optimize User Journeys: Look at your top Navigation paths. If you see that users consistently navigate from the "Homepage" to "HR Portal" and then directly to "Onboarding", you can save them a click by putting a prominent "Onboarding" quick link right on the main homepage.
Improve Search Relevance: If a specific keyword is in your Top search queries but you also have a high rate of Searches with no clicks, your content exists but isn't surfacing properly. Use these insights to update your page tags, titles, and metadata to match the actual vocabulary of your workforce.
