Introduction
Over time, a team created in Microsoft Teams might fall out of the use, or you might want to archive or delete a team at the end of a project.
When you archive a team, all activity for that team ceases. However, you can still add or remove members and update roles, and you can still view all the team activity in standard and private channels, files, and chats. Archiving a team also archives the team's private channels and associated site collections.
Powell Teams support Microsoft Teams' "Archive" feature to avoid having unnecessary or inactive teams.
The archive feature is available in the Powell Teams administration section.
Archive a team
Follow these steps to archive a team:
- Go to the Admin section in Powell Teams.
- Go to the section "Manage Teams" in the menu,
- Go to the page All teams with the list of all teams.
- Select a team and click on the edit icon to access the team details.
- Scroll down, and you will see the "archive" feature.
- Select the option archive "yes" - the button has to go green.

When the team is archived, a conversation will turn in the "read mode" only, and the team will be removed from the list of available teams for the users.
Important note: there is a delay after the archive action, and you need to wait few minutes before seeing it with the “archived” status.
Archived teams are displayed with a padlock icon.
Make an archived team active.
Follow these steps to unarchive a team:
- Go to the section "Manage Teams" in the menu,
- Go to the page with the list of all teams.
- Select a team and click on the edit icon to access the team details.
- Scroll down, and you will see the "archive" feature.
- Select the option archive "no" - the button has to go grey.
